Where to begin

I don't even know where to start it has been so long and so much has happened. I guess I will start with our trip to Virginia. First of all I must give a big thank you to the inventor of the portable dvd player. Without that I think I would have been left behind on the trip or Lydia. We tried to go as far as we could on the first day with out using it. That was 4 hours so not too bad, but after using it we wondered why we didn't just use it right away. We watched Curious George 2 times on the way to Virginia, a couple of times on the trips to destinations while we were there and 3 times on the way home. We had plenty of other movies that the girls watched too, but George was the favorite. Surprisingly we didn't get sick of it either. The first day we drove as far a Greenburg, Indiana. Lydia had a rough day, but it wasn't horrible, but she made it clear every time we stopped that she did not want to get back in. We were able to swim for awhile at the hotel, but Lydia decided she wanted to dive in with no help and mom was tired so I took her back to the room and fell asleep. Unfortunately she woke up around 1 and was saying she wanted to get down and have french fries. I tried to nurse her, but she couldn't calm down so I tried to get her to fall asleep without nursing and eventually around 3 I surrendered and let her nurse. I fell asleep and when I woke up in the morning I had Mayme sleeping by me and Lydia on the other side of Mayme with her head by our feet. Day two went much better traveling. Both days were depressing due to the rain, but we knew at least we would be at our destination by night fall. We arrived about 8 in the evening. 9 hours the first day and 12 hours the second day. Leslie drove the whole way. She told me she did want to be in my spot since I was constantly handing things back to the kids. When we got to Virginia Beach we went to Nicky's and went out to eat at a place called "Friendly's". It was a nice place, but the service was a bit slow so it was hard to keep Lydia happy when she has seriously had enough of the car. When we got back to Nicky's, Lydia was ready for the pack n play. I was so thankful. She slept through the night and so did I. On Monday we got together with Nicky's friend Gabbie and her 2 year old son Andrew. We drove over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel. All of my fears in one place. Water, heights, tunnels. The bridge is 23 miles and it goes over the water and there is no land to be seen. Then there are three tunnels you go through so the naval ships can cross over. It is a very strange feeling first of all to be on a bridge and see no land. Then to go in a tunnel knowing there is water above you is absurd. I did all right as we went along until traffic stopped because they were trying to get traffic through the tunnel. Once on the other side we went to a national park, had a picnic , and went to the beach. We figured it would be cold by the ocean, but it was so warm. We didn't bring swimsuits for the girls so we let May play in the water in her undies and Lydia in her diaper. It was nice to get sunburned. I could have stayed there all day. When we got back that night we just relaxed at Nicky's house. Tuesday we went to the USS Wisconsin to look around and Nauticus. It was hard not to think of my husband while we were there because I know how much he would have loved being there. Lydia decided to have a tantrum in the gift store and nearly knocked down an expensive piece of glass. That was not funny. That night we went to see "Meet the Robinsons" which I really enjoyed and the girls too. Lydia was quiet the whole time. Wednesday we went to Williamsburg and went to some stores. There was actually a Christmas store that it snowed in and a make your own animal store so Mayme made a unicorn. It was so much fun. Since this was our last night in town Nicky treated us to Chuck E Cheese. Mayme has never been there, but we had set it aside as a reward for the end of the school year, but to surprise her was great and if you asked her about Virginia she would probably tell you that was her favorite part. It was really fun to spend time with Leslie and Nicky. Day 1 on the way home went by really fast and day 2 did too until we got in Wisconsin and then it seemed like forever just because we knew it was so close. We left 75 degrees in VA and ended up home in the teens and blowing wind. Brrrrrr.....
So since the trip. Mayme has seen the doctor and will be having tubes put in and tonsils taken out this summer, Lydia has to see her surgeon on Tuesday to check her head since her soft spot is not closed, Lydia got sick with an ear infection and strep, but the amoxicillan didn't work so she is on zithromax and today Mayme got hit in the face with a football at recess and it knocked out her two front teeth. So between getting settled being back, work, and doctors appointments....oh and testing for the kids at work there has been hardly any time to write. I hope you understand.
